Dr. Marcus A. Bright
A father’s main responsibilities are to provide, protect, and to establish a sense of worth their child’s life. So how does a community raise a child in father-less homes? The answer is simple, by filling the void through mentorship. Dr. Marcus Bright does just that.
Please tell us about your life/professional journey
I’m originally from a small town in Martin, Tennessee. I went to Palm Beach Community College and the University of Tampa on a basketball scholarship. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree, I earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and went on to pursue a Ph.D. Professionally, I wear a number of different hats. As the Executive Director of Education for a Better America, I’ve partnered with school districts, universities, churches, and community organizations in more than 15 cities across the nation. I serve as a Professor of Public Administration and a District Administrator for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Describe what makes being a father special
Although I haven’t had the opportunity yet, being a father is special because it is the miracle of creating life in your own image. It provides the opportunity to cultivate within your child a desire to find his or her own purpose in life.
How do you play a role in the education of a child?
A large part of my life is dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities for children. I work to help generate positive change through developing efforts to improve educational programs and practices. I try to continually use my platform to share the best practices in the education of children via presentations and in the classroom.
What is your best memory of your father?
My best memories are when my father would drive me from Martin to Memphis, Tennessee for AAU Basketball practices and games. He would frequently make a two and a half hour drive for me to have an opportunity to pursue by basketball dreams. It gave us an opportunity to have some quality time and it exemplifies the kinds of sacrifices that he made to create a better way of life for me.
Being a father is…… the greatest role that a man can have along with being a husband. God’s greatest gifts to humanity.
Fathers should……always exhibit great character and integrity because children are always watching and they are always setting an example.
I want my child to say my father……loved them the most.
